Manager of IT

Department: KGL Information Technology
Location: Des Moines, IA

The Manager IT leads Global technology operations and translates business needs into practical, secure, and scalable technology priorities. Reporting to the Head of Shared Services, this hands-on leader oversees infrastructure, cybersecurity execution, service delivery, technology projects, vendor partnerships, and the Information Technology budget while leading the IT team. The role recommends technology strategy and investment priorities for senior-leader approval and partners with international IT team members to promote alignment across shared platforms, security practices, and cross-border initiatives. This position offers broad exposure to enterprise technology decisions and the opportunity to strengthen the reliability, security, and effectiveness of IT services across a diverse global group of businesses.

Essential Responsibilities

IT Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and maintain the organization's IT strategy and technology roadmap.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align technology initiatives with business goals.
  • Lead technology modernization, digital transformation, and AI adoption efforts.
  • Establish technology standards, governance frameworks, and operational policies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that create business value.
  • Develop and maintain the organization’s AI Strategy and roadmap.

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Provide leadership for Global IT operations and service delivery.
  • Oversee network, cloud, server, endpoint, telecommunications, and collaboration platforms.
  • Ensure availability, performance, scalability, and reliability of technology services.
  • Manage disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience programs.
  • Direct support for corporate offices, remote locations, and international operations.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Partner with the vCISO on cybersecurity policies, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with the vCISO on risk assessments, vulnerability management, and third-party security reviews.
  • Partner with the vCISO to oversee security incident response and remediation activities.
  • Partner with cybersecurity consultants, managed service providers, and auditors to maintain the organization's security posture.

Microsoft 365 & Collaboration

  • Provide strategic oversight of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Copilot, and related services.
  • Drive collaboration, productivity, communication, and AI enablement initiatives.
  • Ensure governance, compliance, and lifecycle management of collaboration platforms.

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage the annual IT operating and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Negotiate technology contracts, software licensing agreements, and vendor relationships.
  • Monitor technology spending and identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
  • Manage relationships with managed service providers, consultants, and strategic partners.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop IT staff and technology partners.
  • Establish performance expectations and professional development plans.
  • Foster customer-focused service culture.
  • Ensure appropriate succession planning, cross-training, and knowledge transfer.

Audio Visual & Workplace Technology

  • Provide leadership and oversight for enterprise audiovisual technologies.
  • Ensure reliable operation of conference rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, scheduling panels, executive meeting spaces, and presentation technologies.
  • Develop support standards and lifecycle management plans for workplace technology solutions.
  • Support executive meetings, town halls, and key corporate events through technology enablement.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Position involves leadership responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic leadership and guidance in alignment with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads the overall direction, coordination, and performance optimization of assigned functions, department, or business.
  • Manages talent acquisition processes including candidate selection, onboarding, and professional development initiatives for team members.
  • Ensures comprehensive performance evaluation and development planning for all direct reports, conducting formal assessments annually in accordance with organizational standards.

Level of Supervision Received

  • This position will have access to supervision as needed to resolve issues or problems.

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, including infrastructure, systems, service delivery, cybersecurity, or related enterprise technology functions.
  • 3+ years of people-leadership experience, including setting priorities, delegating work, coaching performance, and developing team capability.
  • Experience managing technology budgets, vendor relationships, contracts, and enterprise technology projects.
  • Experience providing hands-on technical leadership across network, cloud, Microsoft 365, end-user computing, identity and access, and security environments.
  • Experience supporting distributed, multi-business, or international operations, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, a related technical discipline, or business, preferred.
  • Relevant Microsoft, Cisco, cybersecurity, cloud, or IT service-management certification, preferred.

Skills and Competencies

Translates business goals and operational needs into practical technology recommendations, priorities, and roadmaps.

• Broad technical knowledge of enterprise networking, WAN and SD-WAN, cloud infrastructure, servers and storage, Microsoft 365, artificial intelligence, data governance, collaboration platforms, endpoint management, and audiovisual technologies.

• Working knowledge of network architecture and services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, firewalls, routing, monitoring, and performance analysis.

• Applies cybersecurity, risk-management, access-control, incident-response, business-continuity, and compliance principles in a practical operating environment.

• Leads service delivery using disciplined incident, problem, change, asset, and vendor-management practices.

• Builds clear business cases, manages budgets responsibly, negotiates effectively, and evaluates technology investments based on cost, value, risk, and sustainability.

• Communicates complex technical information clearly to senior leaders, business partners, vendors, and non-technical users.

• Uses sound judgment, maintains confidentiality, and escalates material technology or security risks promptly.

• Leads collaboratively across U.S. and international teams while maintaining clear ownership, accountability, and follow-through.

Physical Requirements of The Job

  • Normal office environment. The role regularly uses a computer, phone, and standard office and technology equipment.
  • The associate frequently communicates in person, by telephone, and by video conference; uses hands to operate computer and technology equipment; and sits, stands, walks, bends, stoops, and reaches. This position occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
